I Don’t Understand Spore Hype

Maybe it’s because I’ve never been a fan of anything Will Wright has done. Maybe it’s because I’ve always been more of a console gamer than a PC gamer. But I really couldn’t care less about Spore, and all the hype that follows the title. Actually it’s sort of annoying.
Especially considering the game is basically just a combination of other titles already available, such as Civilization. Only with Spore, you can have fun going through hours of editing screens to change your characters around, providing days of point and click color editing action. No doubt with all the fun difficulties of the Sims. I.E. no control over characters, and some stupid repetitive task cropping up every two seconds, ensuring you never get to explore the game the way you want to. Remember The Sims 2? Did anyone play that without being frustrated at the amount of maintenance your characters required. You know, to the point where you weren’t so much playing the game, as taking people to the bathroom and then feeding them every two seconds.

So yeah, I guess I’m just not all that excited. I can get bad graphics and unrelenting character maintenance somewhere else. I don’t need an all new evolution engine hiding a glorified editing system for your unique “creatures”. Blah.
I’d rather go play Crackdown.
Have you ever played Crackdown? Instead of pretending you’re playing a game, when you’re actually just doing lame editing and given the illusion of an advancing society, why not blow stuff up with friend on Xbox Live?
Who needs to create a creature to hold hands with on your way to a million bathroom trips, when you can pile up fifty cars and see how big of an explosion you can create?
