The New Golden Axe Will Probably Be Horrible, But I’ll Play It Anyway

I’m a complete sap for hack ‘n slash games, and anyone who likes a good hack ‘n slash session knows a good game is hard to come by. Golden Axe: Beast Rider doesn’t look as though it’s going to satisfy that hunger, but at least it’s something. Who wasn’t a fan of the original Golden Axe? Hacking up random creatures, and riding around on cheesy digitized dragons, it was fun if not mind numbingly difficult.
All I’m hoping for from the new game is some solid swordplay, and a much more fair difficulty, where I feel as though my mistakes are what’s keeping me from progressing. I hate when the game itself is keeping you down. Like the excessive glitching in Madden or FIFA or really any EA title that lacks the proper polish, making it so that you feel like you just don’t have control of the situation. Basically every EA game come to think of it.
But Golden Axe looks like that solid game that will satisfy at least a small amount of bloodlust. And that’s what hack ‘n slash games have been lately, just good enough to give you a taste of how much you would love to play a great sword swinging, enemy dismembering game. But they never quite raise the bar high enough to warrant more than one playthrough. If only every game could be a God Of War, or Spartan: Total Warrior.
Here’s a gameplay demo, showing that I’m right in assuming the new Golden Axe will be fun, but nothing you’ll stick with for too long:
