2009’s Game Of The Year, Dragon Age: Origins

So here’s my new most anticipated game of this generations, Bioware’s next opus, Dragon Age: Origins. After Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect, I absolutely cannot wait for this game, despite it carrying a console release date of fourth quarter 2009. I already cannot wait to get my hands on this.
I’ve never played the Dragon Age franchise which is available on PC, but I don’t think that matters in terms of the quality we can expect, and I can’t wait to see Bioware’s next-gen attempt at the medieval style of life. Already the game looks beautiful, as evidenced by the trailer. Looks to set a new bar up from the amazing one Mass Effect set up. I just hope we get the massive battles that look possible from the pre-rendered animation in the trailers, like Viking: Battle For Asgard, only better because it’s Bioware.

So far the details about gameplay, confirmed details that is, are as such:
- The game will feature different playable classes, the three announced so far are Rogue, Wizard, and Warrior but more are expected.
- Combat will be similar to KOTOR, real time combat with the pause ability to change tactics on the fly.
- Also following in the vein of KOTOR will be the party system, which will feature up to three other characters allotted from who you meet during the games story, with which you will comprise your party.
- Bioware co-CEO Ray Muzyka has said that Dragon Age will be the spiritual successor to the Baldur’s Gate series, not in plot of course, but in the overall style and tone of the gameplay. Which means lots of dungeon crawling, item finding, and combat carnage?
The PC version will come with tools to allow you to easily reprogram and customize aspects of gameplay, and even create your own ‘levels’ to play through.
All in all, I can’t wait for Dragon Age, and I’ll be starting to mark off days on my calendar starting right now. Bioware has never let me down.
