Avatars are Lame

In incredibly lame news I just discovered, Microsoft has released the first content update for it’s Mii wannabe/Avatars thing that doesn’t really have a purpose yet. And the update, you know the promised new Avatar content that would be coming, consists of like one new item in each category. WOW what fun and imagine the customization capabilities now being given one new article of clothing to use.
My problem with Avatars is that there really are no options for customization, and despite the options offered, you can’t really feel like you have a complete and original avatar. Being limited in so many ways, like not even being able to change the colour of an item, and only being able to use an article of clothing as is, what’s up with that?

Colour customization seems like a pretty basic concept, so why can’t you change your hair, clothing, or even skin, to whatever tone you wish? What if a purple person with blazing red pants and a yellow t-shirt defines you, so you would like to convey that through your Avatar? Well, sorry but you can’t, because Microsoft built these as a cash in for their family friendly campaign, not an actual method for expressing yourself on Xbox Live.
And why can’t you make a custom t-shirt featuring those gamerpics that we told wouldn’t become obsolete and yet really have become meaningless? Why can’t I make my gamerpic an icon on my t-shirt, you know furthering the concept of originality and individuality I should be able to achieve from my custom Avatar?
But, anyway, here’s a gameplay demo from the absolutely brilliant looking Lord Of The Rings Conquest:
