New Silent Hill Announced For Wii

Nintendo Power magazine has announced that Konami is hard at work on a brand new Silent Hill game being developed exclusively for Wii. Well, actually scratch that brand new part, as the ‘new’ entry into the series Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is actually a remake of the original Silent Hill game for the Wii. And considering what a classic, and how horrifying, and how awesome the story was in the original Silent Hill, I have no faith in this whatsoever.
I see shades of the last absolute failure to be made from a legendary game when it was ported to a Nintendo console, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and that turned out horribly. You can’t take something legendary in the Survival Horror genre, and put a different director and dev teams on the project and expect anything but disappointment.
Especially considering Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is described as a re-imagining of the first Silent Hill, in which you still control Harry Mason, and he’s still looking for his daughter, but from there the story has been changed dramatically. Familiar faces will still appear, but in different roles and in different ways in an experience that Konami hopes will, I guess, change the experience enough so that those who have already played the original will still be interested?

But I don’t know, this is going to be like if someone were to remake classic horror films like Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or even Last House On The Left with a different director and cast and expect to make new classics. Oh…wait….wait, that has been tried, and the results were really ugly.
Suffice it to say, I’ve no faith whatsoever in changing the original Silent Hill’s mechanics to make a ‘better’ gaming experience.

so… i’m a bit confused. what was so bad about MGS: Twin Snakes? i played through it and felt that it was pretty faithful to the PlayStation experience.
