World Of Warcraft Introduces Faction Switching

World of Warcraft’s wave of completely unnecessary exploitation of fans continues today, as the ability to switch factions has gone live. I think this ability would be fairly cool, and even something worthwhile if you could be a different race that isn’t currently in said faction. Like if you wanted to be an Orc Hunter in the Alliance, or a Night Elf Rogue member of the Horde. But no, all this allows is $30 to remake your character with a different class/race equivalent on the other faction. Which is pretty lame, and very expensive considering the cost.
But then WoW is the game that charges for services that most other MMO games offer for free. Like switching servers, which carries the ridiculously high cost of $25. Thinking of switching servers to play with a friend, and you want to take all your high level characters? Well it’s going to cost you a few hundred then most likely. Thanks for giving back to your long term supporters Blizzard.

At any rate, I don’t have any of the objections that most WoW players have at the ability to faction switch. I can understand that some people think it’s disloyal, or that the service will be abused so that Horde and Alliance can repeatedly betray one another. I just think, hey, it’s a videogame. If someone wants to pay $30 for an essentially senseless service, to make the game more fun to them, go nuts. That’s what videogames are about after all, aren’t they? Entertainment?
